What is the LPG cylinder price today in India?
State-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) revise LPG prices on the first day of each month [2]. On 1 November 2026, Indian Oil (IOCL), Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) left the household cylinder unchanged. They raised the commercial cylinder used by hotels, restaurants and other businesses [1,2].
The 14.2-kg domestic cylinder costs Rs 942 in Delhi, Rs 941.50 in Mumbai, Rs 968 in Kolkata and Rs 957.50 in Chennai. Patna has the highest domestic rate among the cities listed, at Rs 1,031.50 [1]. Prices differ between states because of local taxes such as value added tax (VAT) [2].
The 19-kg commercial cylinder rose by Rs 10 to Rs 17 across the four metros. It now costs Rs 2,820 in Delhi, Rs 2,775 in Mumbai, Rs 2,971 in Kolkata and Rs 2,994.50 in Chennai [1,2]. Kolkata saw the largest rise, Rs 17 [2]. In Bengaluru the commercial cylinder costs Rs 2,908 [4].
Smaller cylinders moved too. In Delhi a 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) refill costs Rs 782, and a new 5-kg FTL connection costs Rs 1,903 [2,3].
Why did commercial LPG prices rise on 1 November?
Commercial LPG is priced against international benchmarks. India TV News reports that the monthly changes reflect international benchmark prices and the rupee–dollar exchange rate [2]. All three inputs moved against Indian buyers in October.
The main benchmark is the Saudi contract price (CP), which Saudi Aramco announces each month for propane and butane. Goodreturns notes that Indian LPG prices are largely set with reference to the CP [5]. For November, Aramco raised propane by $40 to $720 a tonne and butane by $50 to $780 a tonne [1,5]. Algeria's Sonatrach raised its November propane price by $155 to $825 a tonne [1].
The CP is far above last year's level. A year ago, Aramco set November 2025 propane at $475 a tonne and butane at $460 [18]. After Gulf shipments were disrupted, it raised April propane by $205 to $750 and butane to $800 [16]. June prices reached $760 for propane and $820 for butane [17]. The CP then eased to $625 for propane in September before rising again [5].
Data
| Propane | Butane | |
|---|---|---|
| Nov 2025 | 475 | 460 |
| Apr 2026 | 750 | 800 |
| Jun 2026 | 760 | 820 |
| Sep 2026 | 625 | 660 |
| Oct 2026 | 680 | 730 |
| Nov 2026 | 720 | 780 |
Crude oil also rose. Goodreturns says crude gained 11–12% in October, with Brent above $113 a barrel [1]. The Tribune, citing ANI, links the increase to disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, higher shipping risk premiums and elevated Saudi contract prices [3].
The rupee adds to the import bill. Business Today reported on 8 October that the rupee was trading near 97 to the dollar. Its record low was Rs 96.97, reached in May, and it had lost more than 7% in 2026 [19]. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) raised its repo rate by 25 basis points on 7 October [19]. It has also sold dollars to support the currency [19].
How did LPG cylinder prices get here in 2026?
The current rates are well below the June peak. India TV News reports that the Delhi commercial cylinder rose by Rs 1,373 between February and June [2]. It climbed from Rs 1,740.50 to a record Rs 3,113.50 [2]. The steepest single step came on 1 May, when the price rose by Rs 993 [7]. The Tribune put the May rate at about Rs 3,071.50 [3].
Prices then fell. Companies cut the commercial cylinder by Rs 183.50 in July and Rs 192 in August. They raised it by Rs 9.50 on 1 September and Rs 62.50 on 1 October [2]. November's rise is therefore the third monthly increase in a row.

The household cylinder has moved twice this year. On 7 March the Delhi price rose by Rs 60, from Rs 853 to Rs 913 [6]. On 7 June it rose by Rs 29, to Rs 942 [7]. That is a total increase of Rs 89 since March [2].
Why is the domestic 14.2-kg cylinder price unchanged?
Household LPG is sold below its import cost. The gap is called under-recovery, and the OMCs carry it. In June, Sujata Sharma, a joint secretary at the petroleum ministry, put it at almost Rs 700 per domestic cylinder [10].
The gap narrowed over the summer but is widening again. IOCL finance director Anuj Jain told analysts that the under-recovery was Rs 184 per cylinder in September and Rs 229 in October. He expects about Rs 309 in November and Rs 370 in December [9]. Jain said the Saudi CP had risen to $756 per tonne [9]. Cumulative LPG under-recoveries at 30 September were Rs 32,505.69 crore at IOCL, Rs 18,048.82 crore at HPCL and Rs 17,334.40 crore at BPCL [9].
The OMCs kept the household price at Rs 942 in November [1,2]. The scale of the issue is large. More than 33 crore households use LPG as their main cooking fuel, according to Business Today [13].
How much do Ujjwala households pay for an LPG cylinder?
Households under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) get a subsidy of Rs 300 per 14.2-kg cylinder [8]. At the Delhi price of Rs 942, a beneficiary pays Rs 642 [8]. The scheme has more than 10.5 crore beneficiaries [13].
The rules changed in June. Angel One, citing PTI, reported in June that the subsidised cap was cut to four cylinders a year, from nine. The stated aims were to match average use by PMUY households and to limit losses at the OMCs [8]. The cap had been 12 cylinders when the scheme started in May 2016 [8].
Where is India getting its LPG after the Gulf disruption?
India relied heavily on the Gulf before the war. Drewry estimates national consumption at 33 million tonnes in 2025, with domestic output meeting less than 40% of demand [15]. Gulf News reported in March that India imports about 60% of its LPG and that nearly 90% of those cargoes pass through Hormuz [14]. The supply shock and the rise in the CP are covered in our review of the LPG market in 2026.
The first weeks were difficult. In March, Gulf News reported cylinder shortages at hotels and paying-guest hostels [14]. The minimum gap between bookings rose from 21 to 25 days [14]. The ministry said in June that bookings were managed on 25-day and 45-day cycles, and that no distributor had run dry [10].
The sourcing mix has since changed. On 27 October, Mr Puri said domestic LPG output had risen from 34,000 to 55,000 tonnes a day. He said India had widened its import sources from 27 to 41 countries [11]. "Today, we are importing 67 per cent of our LPG from the United States," he said [11]. US cargoes take 35–40 days to reach India, against 10–12 days from the Middle East [15]. A similar shift has played out in crude, which we covered in India's crude imports in 2026.
Demand has fallen. Demand data come from the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC). Its provisional figures show October LPG consumption of 2.61 million tonnes [12]. That was 12.1% below the 2.97 million tonnes of October 2025 [12]. From April to October, consumption fell 14.5% to 16.31 million tonnes [12]. The government is encouraging households with piped natural gas (PNG) access to switch away from LPG [12]. By early June, more than 80,400 PNG customers had surrendered LPG connections [10].
What are petrol, diesel, CNG and PNG prices in India now?
Petrol and diesel prices rose by about Rs 7.50 a litre in May and have been unchanged since [2]. On 2 November, petrol cost Rs 102.12 a litre in Delhi, Rs 111.21 in Mumbai, Rs 113.51 in Kolkata and Rs 107.76 in Chennai. Diesel cost Rs 95.20, Rs 97.83, Rs 99.82 and Rs 99.55 respectively [20].
Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) rose by Rs 1.37 to Rs 138.50 a litre on 1 November, its fourth monthly increase in a row [2]. Some city gas companies raised compressed natural gas (CNG) prices. Mahanagar Gas raised Mumbai CNG by Re 1 to Rs 90 a kg [4]. PNG stayed at Rs 49.60 per standard cubic metre in Delhi [4]. Refinery operations matter for product supply too; we reported on the HPCL Visakh refinery fire on 2 November.
What to watch
- December CP and the 1 December revision. Commercial rates follow the Saudi CP, the rupee and freight [2,5]. Aramco's next posting will shape the next commercial price.
- Under-recoveries. IOCL expects losses on household cylinders to rise to about Rs 370 in December [9]. That keeps pressure on the household price and on government support.
- Gulf supply. India still depends on imports for most of its LPG [14,15]. Any change in Hormuz traffic would affect cargo timing and freight.
- The rupee. HDFC Bank expects a range of 96–98 to the dollar in the second half of the fiscal year, Business Today reported [19].
- Brent. Brent fell 2.9% to $110.2 a barrel in early Asian trade on 2 November [20]. A lasting move either way would feed into fuel import costs.
