Where things stand
Last updated:
Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is still about 70% below pre-war levels, with 277 transits in the week to 28 October. October was the most violent month for shipping since the conflict began, with at least 35 attacks reported by UKMTO, while Brent ended the month at a six-month high of $117.64. Crude exports have largely recovered through the Saudi East-West pipeline, Fujairah and a shuttle-tanker fleet, but product exports, LNG and freight have not. Qatari mediators returned to Tehran and talks were due to continue in Doha on 31 October.

Brent values mix spot and futures settlements as labelled in the data tables. Values marked as calculated in the data tables are simple sums or differences of published figures.

FAQ
Questions about the Strait of Hormuz
Is the Strait of Hormuz open?
Ships are crossing, but traffic remains far below normal and attacks on shipping continue. This page shows the latest weekly transit count, the number of attacks reported and the oil flows through the strait, each with its source and date.
How much oil normally passes through the Strait of Hormuz?
About 20 million barrels a day in 2025 — 19.87 million b/d according to the IEA, roughly a quarter of world seaborne oil trade — and about a fifth of global LNG trade.
How often is the tracker updated?
Every week, on Saturday. Each value is copied from a published source that is linked on this page; calculated values are marked as such.
Does Alupetra trade through the Strait of Hormuz?
We follow the strait because it affects the price and availability of the crude oil, LPG, LNG and urea we trade. We do not deal with sanctioned parties, and nothing on this page is advice on shipping routes or sanctions.
