Ultra-low sulphur diesel (ULSD) in New York Harbor is the delivery grade of the NYMEX ULSD futures contract, formerly the heating oil contract, and a key benchmark for diesel and gasoil worldwide. It is a wholesale price before taxes, not a retail pump price.
Diesel margins are a sensitive indicator of how tight refining capacity is. Compare the price per barrel with Brent to see the diesel crack spread, which shows what refiners earn from turning crude into diesel.
