West Texas Intermediate (WTI) is the US benchmark for light sweet crude oil. Its price is set at Cushing, Oklahoma, the delivery point of the NYMEX light sweet crude oil futures contract, which is often simply called “light crude”.
WTI usually trades below Brent because US crude has to be moved to the coast and shipped to reach most export markets. The Brent–WTI spread is therefore a key indicator of the economics of US crude exports.
